The opportunity:

Uphold is looking for an intern to join our Frontend Engineering team for a Summer Internship. This is an exciting opportunity where you’ll get to see how we work, get together with the team, and contribute to our Frontend projects under continued guidance from a member of the team. Working with React, React Native, GraphQL, and XState, you’ll learn how we organize and develop new features in our applications.


Primary responsibilities:

Uphold's Summer Internship provides you with a first experience in the job market. It’s designed for students and recent graduates to give you insight into Uphold and how we work — our processes, people, and dynamics.
As a Summer intern at Uphold, you will join our Frontend team and contribute to Frontend Projects with the necessary guidance and support.


This is what the Summer internship looks like:

  • 8-week program: July 14 to September 5, 2025.
  • Work setup: Based in Braga or Porto, with remote and hybrid options available.
  • Welcome gift: You’ll receive some cool Uphold swag!
  • Mentor: A mentor will guide your work and provide ongoing feedback.
  • Buddy: A buddy will help you settle in and support you along the way.
  • Equipment: We’ll provide a laptop for the duration of your internship.
  • Compensation: Successfully completing the internship makes you eligible for up to €2,500!
  • Future opportunities: This is a short-term internship, but great work tends to get noticed!

Required qualifications:

  • Ongoing Academic studies or Degree, preferred in software engineering.
  • Knowledge of programming languages and web development standards, such as network behaviors.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Solid communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Fluent written and oral English skills.

Bonus if you have:

  • Knowledge of JavaScript, CSS, HTML, and frontend languages/frameworks.
  • Experience with user interface design.
  • Knowledge or experience in building applications with React/React Native.
  • Familiarity with Git and GitHub, as well as experience with test-driven development.
  • Creativity, curiosity, and a growth mindset.
  • Familiarity with cryptocurrencies or other digital assets as they are core to our business.
  • Community talks, certifications, and/or blog posts on your interests and research.
  • Open source project contributions of any kind, such as tools developed to solve specific problems you’ve had, or fixing issues on existing projects.
