
Job Description
Stream is looking for a full-time Staff Android Engineer to join our SDK development efforts for Feeds, Chats, and Video APIs.
Job duties will include building and maintaining open-source libraries to integrate Stream's APIs on mobile apps, figuring out best practices for building reusable components in Jetpack Compose, and making it a breeze for other developers to build video, chat & messaging apps.

Stream’s APIs for video, activity feeds and chat are used by over a billion end users. We’re currently one of the fastest-growing startups in Colorado and Amsterdam. For this role, we’re hiring in Amsterdam or remotely (Europe).
This is a full-time job opening based in our Amsterdam office (hybrid mode, 3 days/week in the office presence is expected).
Relocation and visa sponsorship is possible.
Remote in EMEA is also an option.
What will you be doing
As a Staff Android Engineer, you strive to simplify how applications are built. You will write and maintain open-source libraries that are used by hundreds of our customers and consumed by millions of their users.
Most of your day will be dedicated to software design, research, and coding. You will work with modern mobile tech, such as Kotlin, Coroutines, and Jetpack Compose, focusing on code quality, testing, and CI/CD processes.
The challenges
- You are building SDKs that other developers use. This sets a very high bar in terms of code quality.
- Our SDKs are used by some of the world’s largest apps. Stability, performance, and world-class documentation are essential.
- Since we provide APIs & SDKs that thousands of companies use, we can and should optimize to a very high-quality level.
You have
- 8+ years of experience as an Android developer
- 5+ years writing Kotlin
- Experience with reactive systems like Jetpack Compose. (Related experience on React, React Native, SwiftUI, or Flutter is also relevant)
- Experience working on an SDK (a plus)
- A passion for ensuring quality by writing pragmatic automated tests
- Attention to user experience details - visual look and feel
