🧡 Coverflex

Work changed. Pay didn’t.

Coverflex exists to make compensation work for everyone.
Pay is still rigid, fragmented, and hard to feel.
We turn compensation into choice — one platform, one card, one app — for benefits, meal allowance, insurance and more.

Our platform is simple for HR and meaningful for employees.
We provide choice, smarter compensation tools and empowerment.

⚙️ TL;DR (The Essentials)

Role: Quality Engineer
Seniority Level: Mid to Senior
Type: Individual Contributor

Main Tools: Cypress, TypeScript, Github, Github Actions, ConfigCat, Datadog
Location: Remote (Europe only)
Compensation:

  • Base Salary: 38.000€ to 58.000€ gross annually
  • Equity: Yes – VSOPs
  • Benefits: See below
  • Contract Type: Permanent

💥 Your Impact

You will play a major role in our success because…

You'll be the engineer who ensures Coverflex's compensation platform is reliable, resilient, and delightful to use. Every test strategy you design, every automation you build, and every quality gate you implement will directly protect the financial wellbeing of hundreds of thousands of employees who depend on Coverflex for their benefits, insurance, and flexible compensation.

You'll be embedded within a focused product team, working on a specific vertical with clear purpose and ownership. As a quality engineer, you won't just write tests. You'll shape how quality is built in. You'll collaborate closely with engineers, product managers, and designers from discovery through delivery, bringing quality perspective to technical decisions, identifying risks early, and ensuring we ship the right thing the right way.

You'll know you're successful when, after 90 days, you've…

  • Shipped meaningful test automation that directly improves your team's confidence in deployments and reduces time spent on manual verification
  • Built reliable test infrastructure that runs in CI/CD with fast feedback, proper reporting, and actionable failure signals
  • Improved system quality through thoughtful test coverage, better observability, reduced flakiness, or enhanced monitoring and alerting
  • Established solid foundations by implementing proper test pyramids, observability patterns, documentation, and practices that set your team up for sustained velocity
  • Demonstrated quality ownership by leading test strategy for features end-to-end with minimal oversight, making sound trade-offs, and owning outcomes, not just test counts
  • Elevated the team through constructive code reviews, knowledge sharing, pairing with engineers, and contributing to quality standards and best practices
  • Collaborated effectively with product by bringing quality perspective to discovery, identifying risks, challenging assumptions, and ensuring we build resilient systems

How we'll measure success:

Success means shipping quality improvements that move the needle on your team's reliability week over week. You'll see measurable impact through the metrics that matter: defect escape rate, test coverage, pipeline stability, cycle time, and confidence in releases.

Test suites will be reliable: fast execution, minimal flakiness, comprehensive reporting, and coverage that scales with the product.

Your team will move faster because of the foundations you build: reusable test patterns, clear quality gates, and practices that compound over time.

Engineers will deploy confidently because the team built safety nets that catch issues before they reach production.

⚡ Reality Check - What Makes This Role Hard

Let's be real: here's what makes this role challenging:

Quality is everyone's job, but someone needs to lead it. You'll need to coach and influence without authority. You're not a gatekeeper. You're an enabler. That means building trust, demonstrating value, and helping teams see quality as a feature, not a bottleneck.

You're navigating lots of moving parts. Compensation isn't simple. It touches payments, benefits, insurance, compliance, and integrations with external providers. Your test strategies must cover multiple systems, and you'll need to coordinate across product teams, operations, and infrastructure without clear-cut boundaries. Understanding the broader context and anticipating failure modes is critical.

Every country adds complexity. We operate in Portugal, Italy, and Spain, and each market has different regulations, tax rules, benefit types, and compliance requirements. What works in one country may not work exactly the same way in another. You'll need to build test strategies that are flexible enough to handle these nuances without becoming unmaintainable.

Prevention is harder than detection. Finding bugs is easy. Preventing them by shifting quality left, into requirements, design, and architecture, requires deeper collaboration and influence. You'll need to be in the room early, not just at the end of a sprint.👤 You

Must-haves (evidence, not years)

  • Test Automation: Strong experience with modern frameworks (Playwright, Cypress, Jest, or similar)
  • Programming: Proficient in at least one language (TypeScript, Javascript, Java, Elixir)
  • CI/CD: Experience with pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins)
  • API Testing: Comfortable with contract testing, REST/GraphQL validation
  • Observability: Familiarity with observability tools (Datadog, Grafana, Sentry)
  • Collaboration: Works well embedded in cross-functional teams
  • Communication: Can articulate quality risks and trade-offs clearly

Nice-to-have

  • Experience with mobile testing (Maestro, Appium)
  • Background in fintech, payments, or regulated industries

🧬 Your DNA

We're looking for quality engineers who thrive in fast-paced, product-driven environments. You'll need to be comfortable with rapid iteration, shifting quality left, and adapting priorities based on risk and business impact.

This role demands strong collaboration across product, design, and engineering teams, a pragmatic approach to balancing coverage with speed, and deep ownership of both test strategy and system reliability.

If you excel at finding the right level of testing, whether that's comprehensive automation or pragmatic manual exploration to unblock progress, embrace trunk-based development with proper quality gates, and naturally align your work to team goals while maintaining quality through disciplined execution, you'll succeed here.

You'll probably find this frustrating if…

You see quality as a phase at the end of the process, prefer to work in isolation, rely exclusively on manual testing, over-engineer test suites before validating the approach, avoid ownership of system reliability, struggle to influence without authority, or can't handle the pressure of working in a fast-moving environment where things don't always go as planned.
